Google Home mini and Android TV

Hi everyone,

Am I the only one who own a Google Home mini and an Android TV and that find it so unbelievable that we can't turn on and off our TV or launch Netflix or Spotify by the voice while we can on a Chromecast?

Seriously Google? Come on!

Trying to find the right remotes for Shield & MiBox

I've been researching android compatible remotes, even ordered and tried out several. Air mouse and keyboard are pretty standard, but I can't seem to find one that also does all of the following:

1.) Programmable IR buttons (4 is plenty)

2.) Microphone Search Input

3.) Backlight

I've only see ONE that does but it requires you to push a mode button before and after you use a programmed key (yuck).

So far I'm being forced to choose 2 of the 3 options above. Anyone find a good one with all three of those?

Way to have Movies and TV "drives" exist on same drive?

I'm new to SPMC/Kodi/etc, so forgive me if this is a stupid simple question. I'm connecting USB drives to my Shield TV to play my library of Movies and TV. I previously had two drives connected -- one for Movies and one for TV -- which made it straightforward to select what was on each drive so the scraping service could create my library. I just bought an 8TB WD easystore, since they're on sale at Best Buy right now, and would like to consolidate everything to just that drive. Within Kodi, can I assign part of that WD drive as Movies and part of it as TV, so the scraper will properly handle it?

Android TV Remote Control broken

Does this app still work for anyone? My TV is on Marshmallow and the app recently stopped working. Could this be because the TV requires to have the Android TV Remote Service app which only works on Android Nougat? Can someone with a Beelink GS1 explain to me how I'm supposed to use the Twitch App correctly?

Hi, I have the Beelink GS1 6K and I'm trying to use the Twitch app, but I can't seem to cycle down to the live broadcasts without switching to "mouse mode" on the remote and navigating the screen with a cursor (which is super annoying).

I have Android TV built into another TV in my house and I have no issues finding my way around the Twitch app, but through the Beelink it's next to impossible. I assume I must be missing something.

Also, the layout of the app is completely different. Is that normal? I assumed it would be identical.

Anyone else got the new YouTube interface?

Really liking small tweaks of the slightly new interface. Must have just been pushed down from the server as the app version is still 2.02.08. Running on 2017 Shield.

  • Video titles are now bold
  • Categories are on the left again
  • Subscriptions are infinitely better. They now show a handful of recent ones first, then the alphabetical list. The list scross vertically and videos from the channel show up before even clicking on the list.
  • History is now a 3 video wide vertically list.
  • "High Contrast" mode in settings changes the background from grey to pure black. Not new

Let me know what I missed!

SPMC / Kodi unresponsive

I've been using SPMC on my Nvidia Shield (2016) model for a long time. Recently SPMC has become quite unresponsive. When I tap on a video, it takes a long time for the "Working.." message to appear and I never see the video. Eventually I have to back out. I'm seeing the same issue with Kodi as well. I have killed the apps and restared and I tried rebooting the box but I can't get them to work properly any more. When I try Plex, the videos work fine.

Any ideas what may be causing this issue on SPMC/Kodi? The setup has been working fine for a long time until recently and I can't think of anything that changed recently.

Thanks!

Nvidia shield casting issue

Long time android tv user thru Sony Tv's. Just bought the shield and wow speed is insane! I set it up thru my Google account, and the Ethernet is plugged into my router that is the wifi that my phone and tablet use. I keep getting error when trying to add shield as a device to cast to I'm Google Home. Is casting Wi-Fi only? I thought as long as it's plugged in to Wi-Fi router it should work. Thanks for your responses.

X900E socks5 proxy?

Hi all, I’m trying to get the most speed out of my vpn and have discovered that both IPVanish and pia who I am currently subscribed to both offer socks5 proxy. I don’t know much about it, so I’m wondering. Is it possible to set this up on a Sony X900E? And if not would it be possible to just run it through kodi on the X900E? And if so, would it be adequate in protecting me from snoopers online? Thanks

Remap keys with air mouse?

Looking into buying an android tv device probably shield and mi box. I see there is some discussion when it comes to selecting a third party remote. The layout on a Minix A2, Mele F10, MX3, etc. seems ideal but the implementation is suspect. Anyone had a good experience remapping one of these on shield without root? Curious to know if you can keep airmouse functionality and use flirc.

Rii MX6 - AndroidTV remote

As someone who has been using HTPC's, Kodi and android boxes forever I have always struggled to find a remote that can handle all the various functions of these devices. Up til this point the best controller I had found that wasn't absurdly large or clumsy was the Rii Mini x1 (2.4ghz) but that came with it's own set of flaws. Rii has knocked it out of the park with their latest product the Rii MX6 is truly great thus far. Using 2.4ghz with replaceable AAA batteries and IR learning w/ a full keyboard and air mouse is key to ease of use for my nvidia shield. I use Kodi and Live Channels app to watch content from my HDhomerun Prime and having number keys on the front of the controller is a godsend. So far I absolutely love this little device and if anyone is looking for a more robust remote option I highly recommend this device

Having problems with internet !

Hello, I bought a Fox TV with android installed, not a known brand I know but my question is will the likes like samsung, philips, sony will make a difference in internet connection? I have a good internet connection (20mpbs) but I can’t stream any thing from web and it’s always on buffering even on Netflix app I have to wait for the video to buffer. I read somewhere on internet that might be the RAM (1gb) small for streams to buffer, now I’m not sure if I return this TV back and get some known brand will fix this issue! If any of you could give me a clear advice on what to do I would highly appreciate it, thanks.

Specs for a box that can handle Plex

I bought a Globmall Android Box last year (Globmall 4K Android 6.0 TV Box, 2017 Model X1 android TV Box 64 Bits Amlogic S905X Marshmallow OS with Bluetooth 4.0).

I had issues using Plex with audio desyncing, video lag, etc. I thought it was my network, and ran a direct connection to the box. Turns out the box was the issue. I have large 1080p files 6+gb that I will want to run through it.

Are the new boxes capable of handling this with the plex app? Should I be using a different app instead of plex to run these files on the existing box?

Thanks for any help. I ended up using an old laptop to run onto my projector. It does the job fine, but it does not have the ease of use the android box with remote offers....so I would like to switch back.

Android TV device with audio sync option?

I have a Sony 65X900E TV which for some reason has audio sync issues, with audio always being a bit behind video. I mostly use it to watch Netflix and Youtube and this is driving me crazy because I like to use my RF wireless headphones which exacerbate the problem. The headphones are low latency which is almost imperceptible when used on a PC but when coupled with the "built in" delay of the TV it is noticeable and annoying.

The only device I've found so far that offers audio sync adjustment is the nVidia Shield but it has far inferior 1080p->4K scaling and actually seems to have stutter issues with Netflix. The Netflix app on the built in OS on the Sony looks beautiful in 1080p content because it's the TV that does upscaling and this doesn't seem to be achievable on the Shield. Apparently Kodi can automatically switch resolution now but I'm mainly interested in Netflix.

Are there any other options at all? The only requirements are 4K HDR Netflix, good 1080p upscaling and audio sync option. Don't care for Youtube HDR that much.

Live Channels DVR not working on Nvidia Shield

I am trying to get the DVR for Live Channels to work and I can not get it to show no matter what i do. I never get the option of "network tv tuner (beta) to select from channel sources which seems to be the part i need to get the DVR to show up and work.

I have tried:

  3. installing then uninstalling and reinstalling HDHomeRun app (20180116)

  4. adopting 64gb flash drive as internal and used 1tb ext drive as external storage (yes moved apps)

  5. adopting 1tb ext drive internal and used the 64gb flash drive as external storage (yes moved apps)

  6. have even done factory reset on nvidia shield to try to get it to work still nothing

image showing that I have adopted more internal storage and have external storage available for storage: https://i.imgur.com/g1RqKJm.jpg

Can ublock origin be installed in Opera?

I tried adding ublock origin addon for opera, but after clicking on it, it says, can't open file.

I thought TV could open it, on inserting any usb pendrive. Even after inserting it, I saw the same thing. Can it be sideloaded by storing and installing file from google drive? Or is there any other way to block ads, as Opera's inbuilt ad blcoker seem to not block all ads? How are you blocking ads now?

X900E wifi faster than wired

I’ve been trying to trouble shoot my slow speeds on my android tv all day and have learned some things, but still don’t know what the problem is. Here goes, I’m paying for 120 mbps Internet. If I run a long Ethernet cable down into the basement I get about 80, if I use my power line adapter for a wired connection I get about the same, if I connect via 2.4 g wifi I get about 20, if I connect via 5 g wifi it goes all the way up to 108. I don’t know why. I also noticed that if I run a network status connection test with wifi everything succeeds, but if I run the same test with wired IPv6 internet connection fails. So I’m thinking it might have something to do with that. I’ve checked in my router to see if there are any settings I could change that might help. There don’t seem to be. I called my isp to see if they knew about anything. They didn’t. So I figure I’d ask here and see if you guys knew anything about this? Thanks for any replies.
