Possible to side load Verizon Fios Mobile app?

I am subscribed to Verizon's Local Double Play option and I noticed the app pretty much has the channels I would be getting with their STB . Anyway to side load the app onto my Sony AndroidTV to bypass the monthly STB fee?

Is Google Music on Android TV completely stripped of features, or am I doing something wrong?

Hello,

It seems as thought the Google Music app on Android TV (Shield TV) is missing a bunch of stuff I love...

Looks like it just pulls my music, but there's no way to play channels...Like all of the stuff that's available on the web player.

Also, a bunch of my music is missing...

Any thoughts? Or is that how the app works?

Android TV (Mi Box) output audio to chromecast audio?

Anyone know how to get an Android TV box to output audio to a Chromecast Audio device?

Background: I've got 4 Chromecast Audio devices for each of the 4 zones of in-ceiling speakers in my house. Would love to get the audio from an NFL game (for instance) to output to the speakers throughout the house.

TIL you can take screenshots on the Mibox without a PC.

The same combo used for most phones (Vol down and power) works for the Mibox using the remote.

Mibox issues - TV turns on randomly + chromecast doesn't work

Anybody else having these issues?

Issue 1: I turn the TV off and then a few minutes later the mi box will turn it back on if I haven't manually suspended it. Does this mean I have to suspend the mi box and then turn off the TV every time instead of just turning off the TV?

Issue 2: Casting from my phone will not work unless I go to the mi box and press the power on button. Shouldn't it work while mi box is suspended? A chromecast certainly does...

Mibox netflix freezes at 25% or shows an error

So this happens on 4k content mostly but also sometimes on HD content. Once an episode has this problem it doesn't seem like I can play it ever. I had success sometimes by clearing the cache or reinstalling but now it doesn't seem to fix it.

Show current streaming quality

Just picked up the xiaomi mi box and it's my first android TV box. I'm more of a HTPC typer of user but I wanted to try this out. Anyways I've been trying to figure out how to display current streaming resolution when using apps like Netflix and Hulu. I know these apps have had this ability in the best on other platforms like gaming consoles and roku players. Any help would be appreciated!

Most anime encodes (10 bit H.264 generally) don't play well, any ideas how to workaround that?

Have any of you guys had the issue? Tried it on two Android TVs so far, same result, the Shield TV box (someone lent me one) could apparently software decode those files through brute-forcing, but TVs have weaker CPUs/GPUs and it just doesn't work, even with MXPlayer or VLC. 10bit x265 works perfectly though.

Any idea which media player might work? I'm aware about the option to set up a Plex media server, but that's more a last resort than a first option to me.

Mi box and the future of bitstreaming

So the Mi Box is buggy at best. So first thing. Does anyone know who is in charge of updating the software. Google or Xiaomi?

And the biggest only reason to to keep this box is the promise of DTS-HD and True HD bitstreaming. Has anyone seen any type of confirmation that this is in the future?

Really this thing is just a glorified Chromecast with an interface for me. I got 3 of those plus a Roku.

How easy is it to just play an .mkv?

I've been thinking about buying a Shield to replace my LaCie mediaplayer because it can't handle HEVC content and I want a box that also supports HDR and 4K for a future tv purchase.

One thing I always liked is that the whole process was plug and play - put a file on a thumbdrive and it just plays. How easy is this on an Android TV device? Is there an integrated mediaplayer that handle .mkv's and subtitles or would I need to install Kodi for that? Does it also support NTFS thumbdrives?

Picture quality in Live Channels app: Nexus Player vs Shield TV

I currently have a nexus player, connected via Ethernet (USB adapter), and a HDHomerun extend. For the most part, I am happy with the setup. However, the picture quality of live TV in the Live Channels apps is not that great. I am curious is the nexus player is the reason for the not so good picture quality.

If I use Kodi on the NP with the HDHomerun add-on, picture quality is noticeably better than the Live Channels app. Also, the picture quality on a Linux box (Kodi with HDHomerun add-on) is much better the Live Channels app.

Is the nexus player the reason for the downgraded PQ when using Live Channels? Would a more powerful box like Shield TV improve the PQ in Live Channels?

I have transcoding turned off on the HDHomerun, so that is not the culprit.

Any info/suggestions would be appreciated.

Plex playback smoother when casting

I've just realised that Plex playback seems smoother when I cast it from my iPhone than when I use the android tv app. It seems as though it is playing at 60fps when casting whereas on the android tv app it's 24fps. Has anyone else noticed this?

Mi box and RetroArch, controllers...

Hey all. So I posted earlier this week about some controller woes, and I did some more testing but my results are pretty bad.

I have a handful of controllers and emulators, and so far I haven't found a great combination. For emulators, I've tried nes.emu and snes9x, and I tried to try RetroArch without success.

For controllers, I tried the Nyko Pad Pro, the 8-bitty, and a dualshock 4. The DS4 was a non-starter, it wouldn't pair and it doesn't recognize when connected by USB. The Nyko Pad works well in games (tried Pew Pew), but the lag in NES.emu and snes9x was terrible. The 8-bitty uses the iCade protocol and works better in those two emus, but didn't work with anything else.

As for RetroArch, it would not function correctly with the Nyko Pad, some shoulder buttons were the only things I could navigate with, the left stick and dpad didn't function at all, and I couldn't get to the settings. It also wouldn't respond to the Mi Box remote.

So... Does anyone have any suggestions here? Has anyone gotten RetroArch to function correctly? What controller did you use? Wired or wireless? Thanks very much for any help.

Digital Audio cable for MiBox?

Maybe I've been out of it, but what kind of cable do I need to connect the miBox to my older receiver??

The audio jack on the MiBox looks like it's a 3.5mm headphone jack, but I can see red light coming from it.

Can someone show me how to connect to my older Yamaha receivr that has both RCA digital in and also optical inputs (I believe Toslink)?? Any benefit between the two??
