Help rearranging APPs

I keep rearranging my apps to my desired order on a Sony xbr900E

  1. Netflix
  2. Plex
  3. YouTube
I then hit ok and done. All the apps are the way I like them. As soon as I do something on the tv the apps rearrange to the original order

Is there a way to fix this?

No sound with USB tuner live channels

I recently picked up the Xbox one tuner to use with live channels on my gen1 Nvidia shield TV. I can pick up the channels fine but audio does not work with any of the OTA channels. All Pluto channels work fine. I tried enabling/disabling the surround sound on the shield but no luck. Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks

Mi Box will connect to 4G hotspot, but won't get internet

I am testing my Mi Box with my Karma hotspot. I can get it to connect, but none of the services work (Netflix, etc). They all say no internet. I've tested connecting my laptop to the hotspot, and I get internet just fine. Any suggestions?

Is there any way to power the Mi Box via USB?

I have a plan to use an HDMI to RCA cable to hook a Mi Box up in my van. Then, my kids won't be limited to just the few DVDs that we actually own. My only concern is powering the Mi Box. Is there any way to power it via the USB car charger? Or, do I need to purchase something like this:

Shield (Or any android) TV using Powered speakers?

So.. a little backstory here.

I'm moving, and for a short time I'm going to use my powered JBL LSR305's with the TV.

I want to pick up a Shield TV or other android box.

The question is volume, how would I control it? Does Shield have its own volume control that I can just use a USB DAC?

Or do I need to get a preamp and have yet another remote?

Alternate clients for Google Play Music on Android TV?

I use my Shield TV a lot in the mornings to play music I have stored in my Google Play music locker (I don't subscribe). Thing is, I hate the UI.

I don't care for the voice search (I have dentures, which don't go in till after my coffee, so search mangles my results just like lacking teeth mangles my speech), so I have to scroll through a rather large list (been collecting CDs for nearly 30 years, ripped them all with a CD-ripping robot a few years ago, now have ~22,000 tracks to scroll through) if I want to listen to Slayer or (god forbid) ZZ Top.

Then when I do find the band I want and the album I want, and I start playing it, the screen goes almost-but-not-quite blank while it plays. Totally blank would make sense, to avoid screen burn-in, but this close-but-not-quite is annoying...who wants to look at a bunch of faded right-pointing triangles? Ideally I'd like to see some kind of onscreen track change notification...doesn't have to be permanent, just 15 seconds or so at each track change, telling me what track I'm listening to now. A visualization like WinAmp or iTunes would be nice, but probably too much to hope for.

Even worse is how it responds to buttons. If I do wanna find out what track I'm listening to, the intuitive thing is to press the main button on the remote. And that'll do it, but only by pausing the music completely, which is the last thing I want when I'm right into a wicked song and just want to know the title, to note for future reference. I can do this by pushing up or down, which will bring up the song UI and track list, but that's so completely unintuitive I'd have never guessed it. Finally, there's no stop button, just a pause, so when I'm done listening to music and want to use a different app, I have to kill GPM by double-tapping home and killing the app. At least I can do that now...before there was app-killing on Shield I either had to drill into settings and force-stop or else put up with the fact that sometimes whatever I was listening to last would start playing again, hours later when I was using a different app and the button I was pressing somehow made it's way back to GPM. Sucks when I'm listening to extreme death metal at low volume to wake up in the morning without waking my neighbours, then when I want to watch a movie at fairly high volume in the evening and the extreme death metal starts blaring out.

Anyways, enough of my ranting about the thousand little cuts the GPM UI is killing me with, is there an alternate client for Android TV?

Chrome Issue

I have a Shield TV and love it. I have been able to use chrome on it for many months however recently the cursor is frozen when a webpage loads. The cursor works fine if it is at the homescreen or if the side menu is up. I have cleared the data and also reinstalled however nothing fixes this. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know how to fix?

Also, after getting to web content by opening the menu moving the cursor to what I want to select and selecting it. Video on HiDive.com will not play. Trying to figure out why.

A week or two ago all of this was working however it is not any longer.

My positive experience with android tv (mi box)

I ordered a Mi Box from Aliexpress for my mum to watch netflix and downloaded tv shows and movies with subtitles, it works like a charm yada yada yada... but today I went to spend the day with my little cousin which is 5 years old and I installed a super nintendo emulator in the mi box and carried it in my hip pouch to my uncle's house.

The emulator with the xbox 360 controller worked seamessly! I didn't had to touch anything and we enjoyed a ton of games.

Then my little cousin told me how much he loved minecraft, so I went ahead and tried to download a patched minecraft apk in my uncle's laptop, then I installed and it worked inmediatly, very good frame rate and stuff, he was astonished and I ended borrowing him the mi box for the weekend.

I really think this device is top notch, it reeeally kicks the ass of a rasperri pi (for gaming) or a nes mini, AND it also works for netflix, youtube, chromecast for like $70....

maybe you already have a console, pc, smart tv, etc... but if you don't have a solution for this kind of light gaming and stuff, this is really a bargain and its awesome the little tinkering you have to do to get it ready for your little cousins and grandmas to operate them easily.

I hope android tv doesn't die, it's an amazing platform. also tumbs up to xiaomi.

I highly recomend the Snes9x EX+ app for the mibox + 360 controller tho, works perfectly.

Nvidia Shield TV won't play 4k videos (or 4k HDR) in YouTube App.

I can't find a setting to force 4k and when I hit the stats for nerds button, it says the following:

Dimensions: 1920x1080 *2 Resolution: 2560x1440@60 Optimal Resolution: 3840x2160@60

Also the HDR10 feature isn't showing on my TV as enabled when I hit info. Anyone else have this problem? My TV is a Vizio M50-E1

EDIT: HUGE thanks to /u/nooneisreal for telling me that my cable was too old. Turns out that there is a newer type of HDMI cable and the cable I had (probably 10-15 years old) wasn't correct. $7 fix and it's working great! HDR10 in 4k with some media in plex. Also thanks to /u/Mad1723 for informing me that HDR with youtube isn't supported yet.

Mi Box and heat causing wifi/lag issues

I bought a new Vizio sound bar and also ditched direct-tv. I set the sound bar in the center open slot of my tv console and set the Mi Box on top on the center of the sound bar. I started using my Logitech 650 with everything since I realized that day I could program to use the sound bar and Mi Box. So for the next few weeks I've been so damn frustrated with it buffering. I thought I was being throttled. Didn't seem so with other devices though. Updated router firmware and everything. It's 4 years old and so is my cable modem. I was pretty close to replacing both just because I'm so frustrated. I moved my Mi Box off the sound bar to the top of my tv stand today because I figured it might be getting to hot. Doesn't feel warm really but it damn sure worked. I'm not buffering at all anymore. Now I know heat isn't a friend to any electronic and I have my router and modem open so they get plenty of air. But my sound bar isn't putting off much heat.

Has anyone else had buffering/lag issues then realize it was getting hot? I hope this was definitely the issue and I'm not on some placebo high.

TL:DR heat may cause buffering issues. Try moving your Mi Box

VUDU for Shield TV its Disabling

Hey guys I recently started having the problem on my Shield TV G2 - that VUDU disables automatically, any idea what I can do?

I used VUDU on the Mi Box and I never had this problem, and the first few months with VUDU on the Shield either, but randomly it now starts Disabling itself.

edit: I already tried uninstalling updates, but it still disables after like 1 minute.

Nexus Player vs Mi Box anyone??

I was considering getting a Mi Box because the Nexus Player is getting pretty tired with only 1gb ram....plus Netflix has been randomly crashing or stopping for no apparent reason lately.

I don't have a 4k TV so that part doesn't really matter but if anyone here has used both boxes what is your opinion on the two? What are the major differences (if any) and are there any potential deal breakers with the Mi Box that I should be aware of?

word of advice: DO NOT buy a Mi Box directly from Xiaomi - returns are impossible

I have followed all of the proper steps and they refuse to send me an RMA despite a constant email loop of me demanding it. The return deadline is less than a week away. I have resorted to filing a PayPal dispute because they have made it impossible to return my product.

If you have to buy one of these (and I would suggest just saving up for a Shield as it is so much better) then do it through Walmart or somewhere reliable. I will never buy from Xiaomi again after this.
