Anyone know where these are updated? The running list here doesn't seem to work anymore, only Google drive didn't give me an error.

ShieldTV & Comcast (HBO Go)

I know there are many posts on these, it seems any device I get over the years (Roku, PS3/PS4, and now Shield TV), has issues with HBO Go, as Comcast won't support it right of the bat.

I was wondering if people have got this to work, with side loading special HBO Go apk files ?

Thanks

[Mi Box] Any experience with AX88179-based USB-to-Ethernet?

For the Mi Box 4th gen

I've seen lots of recommendation regarding ASIX AX88772-based USB-to-Ethernet dongles, cause they work (because the drivers for that are compiled into early linux kernels).

However I was looking at ASIX AX88179-based dongles (like this). It is USB3 which supports up to 1Gbps. I know that Mi Box only has USB2, but the USB2 can support something upto 480Mbps, whereas the *772-based dongles max out at 100Mbps. So, even though I won't get full 1Gbps from *179-based dongles, at least it would be closer to maxing out the capabilities of the USB2 port.

Does anyone have any successful, or unsuccessful experience with ASIX AX88179 and Mi Box?

1080p sources in Kodi on Shield TV

Is anyone able to stream 1080p sources (Exodus, for example) in Kodi flawlessly? I'm getting tons of frame skipping, and I'm trying to narrow down what's causing it. I'm on a Shield TV Gen2 and have good, wired internet.

Using Flirc with Shield TV (2017)

I am using a Harmony IR remote (the 650) and have the Flirc set up using the Kodi profile. I programmed the Home button in Flirc as it wasn't working correctly in Playstation Vue. All basic functions work properly now EXCEPT on some apps, like Fan TV for example, the "select/OK" button does not work yet it works in most every other place. The spouse acceptance factor is suffering!

Issues with Xbox Contoller

Have my Gen2 Shield set up in the same room as PC. When I game on PC lets say Skyrim I can use my Xbox one controller (with the wireless adapter plugged into my PC) no problem. However, when I start Gamestream for what ever reason my Xbox1 controller is no longer useable. Am I missing something in set up? I hate the Shield controller just can't get used to it so this would be a deal breaker if I cant use this controller.

Gamestream makes games looks terrible... is there a fix?

I recently purchased a Shield TV, mainly so I can stream games on my 4k TV.

When I hook up my computer directly via HDMI, everything looks beautiful.

However, when using gamestream the colors are extremely washed out. The blacks are extremely crushed (visible gradients). In short, it looks like crap. I've played around with my TV settings and nothing seems to make it look better.

I have a Vizio p65 4k HDTV

Anyone know of a fix?

EDIT:

Here are pictures.

The colors are not uniform when using gamestream: https://screencast.com/t/MkQkZEUf

This is what it looks like when directly connected via HDMI, MUCH better: https://screencast.com/t/wBY9K5uwl66H

Shield a bit laggy and stutters while watching some Live TV channels

I have a HDHomeRun Prime and I notice when I watch some of my local channels, that the video seems to lag and stutter and is very distracting when trying to watch anything that is the news. I'm looking to see if anyone has this issue? What might help fix this? Why does this seem to only happen on my Nvidia Shield? If I play the local channel on my computer, the video is fine.

Thanks

Google Home can't find your AndroidTV? Here's some help.

I just installed a new Mi box. I was having trouble casting videos from Google Home to the Mi box (which I named Kitchen TV). I would say "OK, Google. Play youtube video on Kitchen TV" and the reply would be something like "I can't find Kitchen TV at the moment. Make sure the device is turned on and connected to your network."

Here's actually what happened to me.

The Mi box was on and connected to the network. I could cast videos from the Google Home app on my phone but the Google Home appliance could not find it.

  1. I checked if the Mi box had the updated Google Cast software installed (which it did - 1.21.XXX). I did a force stop on the Google Cast software. Deleted the data. Rebooted the device. Still didn't work.

  2. I removed the Google Cast update (which deleted all the data). Sideloaded the Google Cast update, installed it, and rebooted. Still didn't work.

  3. I realized the the Google Home appliance was connected to one Google account and the Mi box to another. I deleted the Google account on the Mi box, entered the same Google account as on the Google Home, rebooted the Mi box. Still didn't work.

  4. Checked the devices on the Google Home app on my phone. Kitchen TV was there. Tried changing the settings. No luck.

  5. After fiddling with the Google Home app on my phone, way at the bottom of the devices screen I saw something that said something like "Kitchen TV - Unlink device." I realized that the Google account I was using on my phone was not the same Google account that the Google Home appliance was signed on with. I clicked "Unlink device" and went to the Google Home app on another phone that was using the same Google account as the Google Home appliance and the Mi box. There was an option there to LINK this device to this account - which I did - and success! I could now tell the Google Home appliance to play a video on the Kitchen TV and it worked perfectly.

So the short answer is:

  1. Make sure the AndroidTV is using the same Google account as your Google Home.
  2. Make sure the Google Home app on your phone or tablet is using the same Google account as your Google Home and AndroidTV.

If not:

  • unlink the AndroidTV using Google Home app on your phone or tablet

  • link the AndroidTV using the Google Home app on a phone or tablet making sure that app is signed in with the same Google account as your Google Home and AndroidTV.

This was a frustrating experience that took over an hour to figure out. Not all casting issues are related to this - but hopefully it will help someone struggling with this headache.

Shield 2nd gen remote - Wireless interference or defective?

I got my 2nd gen shield on Tuesday. Everything is working fine except the remote, which is what I mainly want to use. Sometimes I will pick it up to pause something and it will not respond for up to 5 seconds. Other times when I am scrolling through something on an app or the main screen, it stops responding to the button presses and after 1-2 seconds it'll respond and rapidly skip forward the number of times I pressed the button while it was not responding.

The controller is fine. I have experienced no problems with it.

Has anyone had similar problems with the remote? I am not sure if it is a wireless interference problem in my house or if the remote is just defective.

I also have a Mi Box and the remote on that has never given me any problems.

Shield TV IR Setup

So, loving my shield TV so far.

My current TV is It only, and browsing through the menu I went in and set up IR for the TV. It worked -- changed the volume and all that during the setup. But the prompts made it sound like it should control my TV power too via IR, MD I am not seeing that happen.

Anyone?

Does Plex on the Shield not direct play DTS audio?

As the title says. I'm using the new gen 2 Shield TV. Every time I set Plex to forced direct play, I get no audio on any of my DTS videos.

I thought the Shield could play back DTS natively? Am I missing something here? The Plex app is up to date.

Nvidia Shield Gamestream lag...

Hey all,

I recently purchased an nvidia shield. Whenever I run gamestream, I get horrendous lag. Makes the game unplayable. It will run smoothly for about 15 seconds before it starts getting very jittery. I was thinking about directly connecting my shield to my router via ethernet cord. Would this help with the lag? Or is there another solution?
